faces of courage
[faces of courage]. After roaming free, I feel like a pinpoint on an infinite atlas Eternity stretches way into obscurity Distance steals away definition I remain lost in a sea of endless uniformity Around me, those brave enough lend me a constant hand To veterans… Patriots, whose true colors shine through as Silent saviors, ashen beneath twisted metal and human debris Lifting unthinkable burdens Refusing to let bruises impacted onto inner souls Act as a hindrance to such a benevolent nature Soldiers in wars that are never victimless Where no innocence is held in the combat zone They vanquish roaring flames As simple as blowing out a flickering candle Villains’ dreams are crushed beneath a single footstep And from the amber waves of grain To the purple mountain majesties The wistful melodies of gratitude Sweep across our nation To politicians… The others, who break free into limitless territory, Preaching to their disciples of betrayal Enemies masquerading as brothers In a world of prejudiced segregation Walking the walk that others don’t Talking the talk that others won’t On the journey to gather enough riches To someday achieve a thing called freedom To someday allow everyone to envision the dream To someday travel away from past obstacles To someday not have to wonder about the future To someday…make it all happen To the explorers… The individuals who venture into the mysteries of life Plunging headfirst into dangerous unknown surroundings Leading to discoveries To escape from an environment that lacks meaning With heartfelt hopes for new ways to enjoy the days to come Trekking long, far and wide Foreseeing through the binoculars of what’s yet to come Un-fogging the murky depths From which opportunity is doubted The colors of the wind are painting their leaves Until the outstretched limbs reach far from their ancestors And spread their branches around the trunks of future generations To ourselves… Our neighbors who remain silent When a word would justify one In the eyes of others But which they dare not speak The plague would soon capture you Then spread like wildfire on bare shrubbery They live according to their own convictions Not twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools But walking with kings and not losing the common touch They all risk exile in the isles of death But in exchange for the possibility Allowance to face fears is what they receive In a desire to right injustices And a display of such gallantry Is a factor, hidden beneath the many layers of character Whether buried or floating above water It can be seen In the many faces of courage
