More or Less
We share the same blueprint as deemed

by the shape of our hearts

and the sinew in our muscles,

the eyes through which we gaze,

the lips through which we speak.

We recognize the shape of our footsteps

by the upright manner in which we walk

and the strides by which we move,

the swing of the hips,

the rhythm in our steps.

We smile with our mouths and expressions

by imagining the emotions we all feel

and the manner in which we express

the concepts of love,

the concepts of hate.

We know the depth of our words we use

by connecting the synapses beneath our skin

and the electricity flows therein,

the organs take their cues,

the glands release their chemistry.

Why then is it so very difficult

for us to recognize a different skin color,

for us to acknowledge a different view,

for us to accept what we see as 'wrong',

for us to lend a hand to a stranger?

We are so much more similar than different

by recalling this we can truly live

and the world will learn to care,

as we celebrate our similarities,

as we revel in our differences.
