My Second Mom
You are my best friend's mother,
A woman like no other.
You treat me like another daughter,
And are there to encourage me when I falter.
You're a mentor and advisor,
Stronger, funnier, wiser;
A true rock in times of confusion
When peace is just an illusion.
Trips with you are funny, crazy, and great,
Getting up at dawn's first light and returning really late.
Your family has embraced my own in love,
And I know you are a blessing from God above.
You are my second mom, and there will never be another,
Happy Birthday, I love you, my only second mother.

Author's Notes:
For Mama Huffman, the mother of my best friend, Kathy. This was written for her birthday.
