Workaholic Woes

She caught a glimpse of him
as he came flitting through.
On his way to work again...
he smiled and said, "I'm doing
all this for you."
"But," she thought, "I need more
than a shadow of a man,
I need someone to hold my hand...
when I am lonely.
Someone who will take the time
to sit down to a nice dinner
with me, not grab a bite to eat
on the run.
I need someone to listen to the
kind of day I've had,
to tell me things are not so bad.
I need a helping hand, not more
money to spend.
I need emotional support...and...
it cannot be bought."
Money can never fill her needs
when she needs someone to hold
on a cold Winter night.
She needs someone to make
things right.
When they both are growing old
and have grown apart...
Will money warm her heart?
When the ravages of time have
slowed them down...
When he finally has time to
spend with her...
will she still be there?
