High he stood above the throng
Sad from all that had gone wrong
His heart was broken, shattered in two
As he wondered what...if do

The stars had dimmed, winked out of sight
No sparkle there to light the night
Darkness dominated day
That darkness would not go away

Cold winds blew among the trees
That brought him weakly to his knees
Icy cold that froze his soul
Making him no longer whole

What had happened along the way?
Why did he feel so dead today?
Tomorrow, he thought, will bring the light
If I just make it though tonight

With daylight came another try
To overcome this wish to die
Depression...stole the will to live
'Til there was nothing left to give

With the dawn he did not awake
From the handful of pills that he did take
A restless peace he finally found
As he was placed deep in the ground

Author's Notes:
Depression is a vicious demon that will destroy a soul and oftentimes no one realizes that another is even going through anything. Be aware of those around you...check on your shut in friends and loved ones...make a phone call occasionally...let people know you care...that you love them...that you're there if needed.

A lovely reminder! I wish more of us would take the time to be kind and care. Sending you love and hugs, just because.
