The Days of Old

Just sitting here 'neath the ole covered bridge
Watching the snow cover the ground
Remembering fondly the days of my youth
When I'd be out in it, running around

A snowman I'd build as my fingers would grow numb
And I'd decorate him with leaves, rocks and twigs
Perhaps add a scarf and a bright crocheted hat
And if I could find one...a wig

As time moved along, as it always will do
I watched my own children at play
They'd build armies of snowmen all through the yard
And have snowball fights all throughout the day

Now here I am with grandchildren (yes, FOUR!)
And I just don't know where the years have fled
But sometimes I wish I could play with them like then
Flying swiftly downhill on a sled

In the meantime I'll just sit here, on this old covered bridge
And I'll watch the snow cover the ground
Reminiscing of days that seem so long ago
That forever in my heart will be found

Yes, time sure does go on!

These are beautiful, sentimental, thoughts, that tickle the mind!

So glad you're here to spend some time with us!

Nicely done, Glata. Memories to cherish are so precious.  All it took was the falling snow to trigger so many of them you've collected over the years. I'm so happy you are enjoying your grandchildren, they are so special!

Indeed "Time marches on with or without us"...

Lively nostalgic and insightful at th same time.

Oh it is so true...just when we come to terms with "time marches on" we realize it picks up the pace, first a leisurely trot and then with quickened pace. The older we get the faster it goes. Fortunately, we have more memories if we have more time. The falling snow adds to the mood that accompanies reminiscing. Lovely thoughts Ms. Glata.
