Ghost Train

My life was out of balance,
I’d been swept up in a tidal wave
Carried into the abysmal darkness

I could feel him close behind me
Every step I took could be my very last
On these sea-swept cliffs as he stalked me
The black waters swirled angrily, hungrily below

I knew that this horror would find me
No matter where I went
There could be no hiding…no escape…
Not this time

I sought a better grip on my swift-fading sanity
But no hand-holds were found
Like nature’s pearl, I’d been polished by fear
As his evil hands of destruction accomplished the task
Of smoothing the sides of the cliff
I’d soon be flying over

His hunger for the taste of pure fear
Was being sated ‘neath the dark moon
On this cold, wind-swept night

The Ghost Train was at the depot
He was the engineer
And I was helpless to escape this ride to hell
With a sigh of resignation I boarded
Ticket in hand

As my ticket was punched I whispered,
"Let the ride begin, and I know that only my life
can satisfy your unending, relentless pursuit.

The whistle blew,
The train pulled from the depot
Bound for the very gates of hell
Engineered by Evil himself
And his victorious laughter echoes forever in my ears
