Campfire Daze
logs crackling, snapping
from finely foraged tinder,
backs arched, necks craned
to watch the billowing smoke
attempt to escape the green-black canopy

as it rises into the moonless, cloudless sky
ascending for communion with Capella,
it hesitates to audition as the Milky Way
all is well
