Free Slaves

At a time we lavish our freedom from our alien foe
thinking the misery that long befell us had paved way
we realize freedom is just but a song
a meaningless song at that to sing
sang only by those who think there is hope
but even a dying candle flame has more hope
freedom we crave for
freedom we get
but freedom is truly never near
a paradox indeed we find ourselves
free indeed but slaves in need
our men of war exhibited great courage
like the lion, they never turned back
if they had known freedom is vague
maybe, they would never have tried
I sit in pain to wail in vain
our fears is no freedom date
those we set to set the pace
same have thus us enslaved
when we try to seek their face
they mock our tears to scorn and laugh
our streets a heap of clay
yet in yonder land they seek solace
looting and giving our treasures away
yet they decry poverty prevail
When I try to see an end
I am amazed the future is blind
no sign for freedom to sing
indeed free but slaves we are
