In your twilight, last words aren't easy.
I bent over and placed my ear closer to your mouth.
The morphine was making it hard for you to talk.
Softly your spoke , "I love y...."
then the expression on your face, once of pain,
became calm and peaceful as a lake on a summers eve.
And the sparrow in your soul took flight, now free of its human cage.
I felt happy for your release, yet sad for my loss.
