A Grain of Salt

you're in love with words, and his are melodic
you drink them up fast like they're a sugary tonic
they swirl through your head, trust taking a seat,
you're on such a high, his compliments are so sweet
you pull him to your sheets in just a heartbeat
then learn later those whispers were full of deceit
how could that conversation come from a fraud?
he put on such a show the Sirens would applaud
for men to get what they want, lying is their default
you need to take their words with a grain of salt

you're in love with gentle touches, and his are pillow soft
you fall into them fast like he's the coziest loft
his skin is a comfy blanket, his hug is just so snug
you're thriving off the ecstasy, his affection's a drug
his kisses are addicting, making you want more
that you're pulling him to your bed for a passionate encore
but then he's out like a ghost, his caress just a memory
how does someone disappear after a night of that much chemistry?
these men just lock their feelings, their conscience, in a vault
you need to take their sweet touches with a grain of salt

Author's Notes:
This guy brought me on a date, made me feel amazing, said he'd let me know when he was a free for a 2nd date, and I haven't heard from him since. My friend Bree told me I need to take what guys say with a grain of salt, and I got inspired to write this poem.

Great stuff Lizzie, I like it very much, even though I am a guy lol. I believe guys should be straight if they really don't want a second date. Some guys may they would make women feel bad if they were straight.

I should say that you're spot on with your experience and inspiration, however, deceit goes both ways in many cases which is regrettable if there is good chemistry between two people.
