Breaking Away
I have become like the Hamster on its wheel
Going nowhere fast is how I'm starting to feel
I feel I'm getting older with so much not yet done
Are there any more adventures that I've not yet begun
Should I feel contented and happy with my lot
My list that once was endless now looks shot
Did I waste my younger years when I thought I knew it all
I had no belief then that old age would one day call
But the years just kept on coming until I reached today
I want to go back to the younger me to take the years away
Life has been spent as I waited for life to begin
I should have looked more closely at the writing on the tin
There was a best before date on that little tin of life
It said best before wrinkles and financial strife
Damn that teenage fool that I used to once be
He thought he'd got the master plan but he never thought about me
I slipped through the years and now I'm fifty two
What would Mr know it all think and what would he do
Nothing is the answer because the young only want to play
The one rule of youth is to simply live for today
So the years finally found me because I'm not as quick
They caught me and something made them stick
I wear them wearily even though their here to stay
Maybe I can be young again if I could only break away
Author's Notes:
We all dream of going back and doing things again, it's a good idea but not been invented yet. I'll just have to wait.
