Keri...A Few Short Years

A few short years was all we had
But we made them mean a lot
Then you moved away from us
But our ties were a firm knot

We often spoke and stayed in touch
The miles could not erase
The happiness that filled my heart
When I could see your face

Then came the call that rocked our world
That made all time stand still
The call that you’d gone home to God
Left a hole nothing can fill

Ten thousand miles away from home
You’d fallen into sleep
Never again to awaken here
Now my heart always weeps

Those beautiful eyes will ne’er again
Fill with love, or pain, or tears
But I know that somewhere…up above
You also know no fears

Time moves on...the pain will fade
But will never go away
And Keri, love, I won’t forget!
I’ll remember you EVERY DAY!

God had His reasons for calling you home
But I know this one thing true
That when it comes my time to go
I’ll once more be with you

Until that day I’ll have to face
Each day as it might come
And keep inside the aching loss
Until my race is run

Author's Notes:
I remember when Keri was a member on here and would comment on so many poems! She would always sign her name at the bottom, "Always, Keri."
She's now gone on to a place where they don't need their poems to be critiqued :-) where every line is perfect, and the ink never runs out in her pen.
My heart is broken and weighs like a stone in my chest because of this loss. A mother should never have to bury her child! But I know that I will see you again, one day...So until I get there, watch for me, for I'll soon be coming home!

Always, Glata

A touching tribute to a very sweet and talented young lady who wrote so beautifully and sang so sweetly. Nothing will ever take away the hurt you feel Glata, I wish you peace and hope that you can come to grips in some way for the loss of Keri.  Hugs,    Henry

I didn't know Keri well, but I saw you two banter on Facebook, and I saw her lovely signature. I think one of the beautiful things, like with my nephew, is how you come to know the ways your loved ones touched the lives of others. In Keri, I saw love, joy, and peace, despite her hardships, and I'm so happy for her that she is beyond all her difficulties here, but I wish I could hug you and cry with you for a while, too.

I love you, lady, and I hope you know that Keri meant the world to us, whether we met her or not.

A mother's grief will never be over till "her race is run". Deeply touching.

wish you and the family all the peace in the world Glata.

I am lost for words I haven't been on cp for many years and am in shell shock to read this well written yet painfull tribute to Keri "always Keri" will always be remembered by many on cp. I just came home from a funeral today, another mother burying her child. You are right Glata no mother should bury her child. My prayers are with you. Your friend Helen
