I Made My Peace With Herbie
Somehow Herbie got out of his cage
And he ran frightened and wild.
I chased him for months,
Foolishly calling his name;
Hunting him down.
One day I spotted him but this time
I stopped myself from lunging at him.
I'm done! No more fretting, I sighed.
I made my peace with Herbie.
He stopped in his tracks, looked at me,
And waited for me to react.
Minutes later he was at my feet,
Ready to be picked up and returned to his cage.
What is my life lesson for today?

Detachment works.
When someone is acting out,
Trying to get a certain reaction,
Exchange your reactionary buttons
Labeled Anger, Fear, and Guilt
For a new one Labeled, Peace.

Open the door to Love

Good advice. What kind of animal is Herbie? I hope he sticks around.
