Lost Words
These halls of crumbling plaster, peeling paint,
all festered up with spirits and with gloam,
a labyrinth for fossiled dreams to roam –
the ink from curled-up pages fading faint,
long past the hope that any hear their plaint,
beneath each twisted arch and broken dome:
a search against eternity for home:
still crawling pained and slow despite constraint.
Like particles that mindlessly descend,
the heavy sunlight pushing down and down
and quiet like the stifling of all things,
they long to reach the sky, to make an end –
remembering before time came to drown,
when purpose knew its name, and still had wings.
Author's Notes:
Awfully hard to write anything these days.

Very well expressed images of misery - is it just the writer’s block:-

Or is it some more humble lay,

Familiar matter of to-day?

Some natural sorrow, loss, or pain,

That has been, and may be again?
