Faithless
Every fiber of my being frays
Your distant eyes say all I need to hear
It's never what I want
Reality is on a map I burned long ago

The good must live to spread the word
Logic doesn't follow this circumstance
For if it did you'd be at home
And I'd have one less axe to grind with the nonexistent

You aren't a prayer away
You're just gone
You're not the spirit of my conscience
You're just gone
You aren't following your father
You're just gone
The only certainty remaining
I'm so lost

Don't sit me down and read me bromides
I'm sorry to repel your arrogance
Your knowledge is a cross
And we're sitting where you gave me his excuses

Tell me why that demon lives on
Tell me how his sentence dims my anger
All I see is subterfuge
So make that light I'll see burn my eyes forever

You aren't spectating me
You're just gone
You aren't hoping I'll believe
You're just gone
I'll never turn and see you smile
You're just gone
The only certainty remaining
I'm fucking lost

Oh father, how you take it all in stride
I could use some of that hope
But I'm not willing to throw away
My mind
My conscience
My rationality

Oh father, what if you're wrong?
You think I'm taking it too hard
But I'm just trying to preserve
My mind
My conscience
My rationality

I'll never call on you
But a passing thought should suffice
I'll never ask for your help
Your memory is stronger than faith

You're not a prayer away
You're just gone

You're just gone
