Sunset on the Lake

Basking in the glory of Mother Nature, and losing all sense of place and time,
troubled thoughts are soon replaced by a sense of utopia; sublime.

Serenity embraces, as burdens flee, along with an Snowy Egret alighting in a nearby cypress tree.
A winsome smile lights my face as I watch the feathered beauty, and she, in turn, intently watches me.
A dragonfly, illuminated by the setting sun appeared like a fairy, ever so bold,
as it flitted about with delicately webbed wings glistening like gold.

The red-orange sun slowly descends as light dances through the clouds like a 'Corps de ballet,'
choreographed in pious splendor by The Master of the Universe in bold array.

Clouds, each with a silver lining, formed visions in purple, pink, peach, blue and gold.
Some formations were soft and delicate in pastel hues, while others were dark, stark, and bold.

The gentle waves on the lake glimmer in both silver and golden hues as they respond in kind,
thus, creating an illusion of being transported to another realm far beyond earthly time.

I gaze in wonderment at the spectacular and awe inspiring view,
thankful to have my spirit lifted and faith in God renewed.

Author's Notes:

Inspired by a glorious sunset over Lake Ponchatrain in Louisiana a few years ago.
It is the only one I have ever seen that could match the ones I saw in Key West, Florida.

What a wonder is Our Father to paint such spectacular endings to our days. And how wonderful that he gave us words to reproduce them at will. Well done, Linda. You've produced a soul satisfying piece of work here. Makes me think of Crystal Lake. ML

There is nothing more beautiful and breathtaking  than a sunset or a sunrise on a calm, serene lake. Your descriptive words make it come to life Linda, it made me want to go and experience it for myself as I have done many times!   Hugs,   Henry

I don't actually get moved very often, Linda. This beautifully descriptive poem moved me. Words can be beautiful when they';re arranged properly. This is a fantastic word arrangement.''

I remember when I was a lonely young man

On those days I enjoyed this type of write

Even now in my old poetry books they exist

You have made me recollect those days

Unfortunately due to lack of a good company

I drifted in my life toward doom and sorrow

My life totally changed and this type of beauty

Does not arise in my punished life regretfully.
