Forgotten Patriots
Let me speak to my country
for they know not what I do
I am a fearless jarhead
that would give it all for you

I do not ask for pity
nor do I care much for your sighs
I ask only for understanding
when you look me in the eyes
Don't judge me by my cover
judge the pages that you read
My book will tell the stories
of my friends dying next to me
We live a life of hardship
Working longer harder days
we fight until the day we break
to protect the American way
So cast away your judgment
Please spare me of your lies
I ask only for your welcome
And a place to rest my mind
I often think about my family
do they understand my ties?
will they ever really know me?
or will they miss me if I die?
But for now, I need to focus
The night is colder than it seems
I will carry it on my shoulders
But I cannot unsee what I've seen

I will fight until my bones collapse
To show this world some justice
we'll come home when our job is done
and our country deems us useless
I will spend my life fighting
for my country's growing needs
Fighting for its freedom
A freedom not meant for me

But I'll keep my head held high
For you know not what I do
I am a forgotten jarhead
That gave it all for you...

Whether you are a soldier, were a soldier, or are just speaking on behalf of our troops, your

poem speaks to me. We owe such a debt of gratitude to those brave men and women.

I really liked this poem. Very patriotic and there aren't nearly enough of those nowadays. A touching, honest poem. And thank you for your service to this country.
