Starve Of The Dark

trouble comes

often to eat the flowers

we grow in flowerbeds

beside the house

like a basking snake

it eats

until filled

after every coil

is sated.

at noon

it crawls into

the roots

of our dreams

through the hole

on the other side

of  our eyes.

how often

we hide

the seeds

in the very bottom

 of our words.

hoping

that one day

a flower

will luminous petals

will blossom forth

to starve off the dark

like a lamp burning

in the window

of a distant neighbor.
