Today It's Hard To Settle Down

Today It's Hard To Settle Down

Today it's hard to settle down

Upon my face uneasy frown;

Anxiety and stress for sure

Pariahs I must now endure;

But why when life is full of light

I have such feelings not quite right;

Perhaps it is this time of day

Whilst all around me sleep and pray;

The early hours can seem so bleak

Without a sound save Nature's squeek

Or squawk from neighbours close at hand

That scurry round upon the land;

'Tis time for thought and there's the thing

My heart will not confess or sing

To me the problems held within

I cannot rest within this skin;

Have tried I pray for calm and peace

But this has granted no release;

The tension builds behind my face

And heart she beats at frantic pace;

But then at last it comes to me

But news that hardly sets me free;

I recall my love although now passed

Today her birthday almost past;

And then a smile revives me now

A welcome break that I allow;

My mind is clear and all is good

I feel becalmed just as I should.

All it takes is a smile, what?  I'm not quite sure where to get one -- but I'm glad you found one in your love's birthday (if that be true :)  Regardless, this is a fine poem.  Easy-to-read and elegantly yet simply said.  --David

Your right about sitting in the evening, mind jumbled with thoughts- seems the quietest times can be the loudest. I like this poem a lot. I like how you find peace at the end.

I think we all have memories of loved one,....

A beautiful poem from the soft side of your heart...

Your lost love's birthday today? Sorry, dude, my mom died on her wedding anniversary, so every time that rolls around, we stop and pause, Dad and me. Well, at least you're back in the saddle again!
