Froth
Have you the eyes that watch me from outside,
The gaze which crawls and slips along the verge
In aching, trawling pressures, mewling urge?
The heated, coated eyes of thwarted shame,
Long wished upon a long-forgotten name,
Fell, breathy truths I could not even speak?
I have not strength to ravage nor to wreak,
No particles for fusion to collide;
Watch, watch me dying slowly, fading cold.
Stare into every molecule and strand,
The shattered bones and veinings of my hand
Stretched out in yearning, still and pale and free―
The last that I can offer you of me:
Watch, watch it crumble, as we both grow old.

This is a very strong piece Ruth, but surely you are not old enough to be writing such a piece. Perhaps I misread it. It feels like a description of a strong somewhat abusive relationship in the first part but then about loving on into old age, though still with an atmosphere of dominance and submission.

Of course it may not be about you and a your husband despite the first person singular voice. It is beautifully written anyway.
