Circle of History
lost from beneath the light,
we scream with morbid delight,
watching the blood flow,
from skyclad skin of sweating snow,
pooling deep in the darkening sand,
as the blade falls from the lolling hand,
a shout of victory and a river of blood,
changing the world in a darkening flood,
from history, live at the scene,
to the present, on a t.v. screen,
then the future, live again in the Coliseum.
Author's Notes:

I don't know about you, but it seems to me that history repeats itself. We seem to repeat the sins of our forefathers over and over again.

It's a sad thing -- this 'repetition compulsion.'  Although you use the word 'WE,' I tend to think the real word is 'THEY.'  Left to ourselves, WE would not do this ever-repeating cycle:  we'd learn from it and never repeat our mistakes.  Who ever THEY are -- THEY do it -- I think -- but not WE...  Whatever.  This is a fantastic poem, superb use of words and images.  --David

You are right, and we will continue to do so until time ends. We are essentially well dressed beasts-some lead to the slaughter, others follow or are taken, but almost all watch in sick fascination.

Again, well done!
