Dragon
And it was said
that in the Elder Days
Creatures fey in countenance
reigned in skies from where
a catastrophe of flame
rained on unsuspecting sleepers
in a deep night
born of magics base and primal
amassed and whirling
on a scorched land

And it was seen
a thunderous flight
Great wings sweeping
on crests of Wind from the East
climbing to lofted heights
to peer at the sweeping land
with baleful eyes
Sorcerous flows bleeding forth
and a glint of Scales
caught on a lighted Morning

And it was felt
in a sky of torment
the scarring flames of death
sundering hearts
beneath the wings and talons
No Weapons held
against the flighted foe
No Banes brought to bear
to quell the source
of scaled death

And it was heard
from Caves dank and dark
sounds of grim foreboding
fearsome cries
dark cachophonies of dread
on the air
and on a quiet time
a Claw scrapes
over the dessicated bones
of a long dead Warrior

And it was then said
that in later years
there came
from lands of Fells and Screes
a Seeker and Giver of Dreams
Blind but with a Voice of Song
Soothing the great Beasts of Night
to an endless Sleep
and who will wake them
in future times
that we may again see
legends

Sweeping song of the same sort of almost-biblical syntax and vocabulary as I sensed before in your last poem -- qualities that re-stimulate the mind to things liturgical.  At once fantastic and noble.  A triumph!  -David
