Champion of Dragons Dilemma
Answering the Champion's shout,
the Dragon's hate filled roar
echos throughout the forest.
Eyes locked on eachother,
man and dragon begin to circle,
each watching for the others
smallest twitching tell-tail signs.
The dragon growls deep in his throat,
swiping a lightning quick slash
with his right front claw,
driving the man towards
his spined aciculate tail.
Seeing the trap for what it is,
the man brings his flambridge down
in a low parry of the tail.
Rolling with the momentum
of the excruciating impact,
choosing his moment with care,
the Champion springs
into a powerful chop.
Letting the sword
shatter harmlessly against
his adamantine-like scales,
the Emerald Dragon
snorts his amusement
at the puny human's attempt.
Staring at his shattered sword
in open astonishment,
the Champion drops his useless hilt.
Helpless hopelessness
surges through his mind,
instantly replaced with
white hot anger.
Feeling the currents
of energy fluctuate and shift,
the Dragon crouches,
simultaneously heaving in
a titanic breath.
