Dragon's Champion
The forest reverberates
from the gargantuan roar,
sending birds scrambling,
shrieking their fear into the sky.
On the forest floor
men in polished,
mirror bright armor
raise their shields and spears,
sealing their fear
within the catacombs of determination.
The earth tembles
as the colossal being lands
with a flash of emerald scales,
it'seyes the color of deep crimson,
glint with mavolent intelligence.
Battle scars criss-cross the creatures snout,
Evidence of previous human encounter.
Breathing in an enormous heave,
the dragon illuminates
the fading twilight
with a fiery tempest,
cooking the human war party
within their shining armor.
Standing alone,
his men dead behind him,
the champion gathers his courage.
With a challenging shout,
the champion takes his final stand.....

John: welcome to the world of Dragons.  This is very vivid...I look forward to more; though I am sure the dragon will  not survive.
