Alcohol stole my life completely

What’s worse is that it is a tool

It was I that did drink freely

So it is I that is the fool

No-one made me take that first drink

Not he who bought it – my friend

I did not even have to think

It was just a means to an end

It has cost me countless lovers

Denied me the chance to marry

Ultimately cost me my job

It nearly got me evicted

Stopped me from buying my own house

And finally damaged my health

So when you sit and take a drink

At some point stop – and have a think

Author's Notes:
I no longer drink but thirty years of the hateful stuff took its toll.  O to turn back the clock...

Some poor persons never get the pleasure of quitting drink.  You have won a fierce battle.  Yes, you have missed out on some things:  but you rescued yourself in time.  There is still a great future in your future.  I can see it.  I can see it in the last two lines of this lesson.  You teach.  --David

So when you sit and take a drink

At some point stop – and have a think ; indeed, that makes all the difference. Brilliant ending.~Dean
