Disappointment comes without a calling-card.
His needless heedless knocking never warns.
Tho’ brings he dreadful message: never mourns —
For steel the shield protects him — recourse barred.
Sometimes small — he hits — yet it’s not so hard —
Sometimes worse, appearance such as hail-storms —
And sometimes — he — unbearable — sneers — scorns
All attempts to comfort: the soul is scarred.
Disappointment burns the care away — clings
A savage cloth — he covers like a mask —
Ne’er looks for any view beyond his mark.
Such disappointment dwells where sorrow sings.
He grows until each breath becomes a task.
And all that once was filled with light is dark.

David, Disappointment comes but not like the Grim Reaper whose call is final.  Disappointment comes knocking and we let him in..... when all we must do is simply start over again.  A fantastic poem from a fantastic and gifted poet.  Tina

Disappointment is always tied to expectations. You can't feel disappointment without expecting a different outcome..As Mark Twain said, "I always expect the worst to happen...That way, if it doesn't, I am pleasantly surprised. "....len
