Haunted
On that night I stood
as I have before
clutching my memories close
There by the bridge I watched
the world close toward night
and a full rising Moon
silvered the land
I listened to the waters sing
as born in the high mountains
they cascaded to the sea
The rustle of dead leaves
on the dark stones
I have done this often
my hard physical prayer
to remember you

And oh my love
the harsh aftermath of loss
washes over me
Here my benediction rang
as I stood where we had stood
before the darkness came
But on this night
clouds gathered westward
a strange nervousness grew
That moment of peace
creating a trancelike state
and I sensed
the earthy scents of Autumn
carried on cold winds from the North

Every nerve within tingled
leaped and shuddered hard
as the deep gloom gathered
Memory closing my throat
chest constricted
I drew a ragged breath
And did something move
in the shadows veiled
by a seeping mist
My own thoughts dwelled
where the cold hard light of reason
had been quenched
and night's portals open

You had always promised
as the last days came
that you would watch us
from beyond that final veil
And I am not ashamed to say
I have cried for you in the darks
remembering your words
Gradually my heartbeats quieted
as the world fell silent
calm gently decending
as clouds slowly parted
to reveal the sky of lights
and for a single moment
my lonliness abated
and oh my love I do believe
that on that special night
you again stood with me
and I was saved

Overwelming as I swallowed hard and tiny tears rolled down my own cheeks....

The loss of your beloved   and all the memories that gather around your loneliness ..

Her spirit still lives within the walls of your suffering heart...

Love is a powerful spirit that just never dies....

She will be with you always ....My prayers to you my friend....

This reminds me of one I once wrote, called Girl In The Moonlight. I'll have to find it sometime.
