But You Knew That

From cleanest mathematics I am made:
Equations balanced on a hair-fine edge.
Where all around is blistered, torn, and flayed,
This glass-green logic gleams a silent pledge,
Its sum an integer, discrete and true—
A masterwork of higher minds than mine—
The product of dividing me by you
And watching the remainder's slow decline.
At peace until I lift my hands and see
The matrices upon which they were laid,
Composed, configured, only built of me,
Though I believed them ours—and I'm afraid
That what I am has no capacity
To add what you would give, and give in trade.

interestingly done, i thought this fit effortlessly into the form, the rhymes seemed perfect and natural throughout. i also thought it was a really interesting idea to formulate a poem based on mathematical metaphors...especially considering the poet's natural catharsis is usually words instead of numbers and figures. and finally i really liked the title, i like it's insistence on naturally fitting at the end of the poem, instead of the beginning, a little extra "aha"... nicely written!
