Through the Lattice Dark
My heart has known many troubled hours
where words seem so inadaquate to say
what lies within my soul
but I remember then
As a low cooing of doves
was heard in quiet moments
I peeriing through the lattice
caught the briefest glimpse
of a dream world spreading
before my avid gaze
and on a beach I saw
Breakers crash and run
and golden eyes
flash through a fine spray

Did I dream or really walk
beyond this veil of mindscapes
To see you my dark queen
bleeding on a bed of roses
and you commanded me
Your words searing hard
My soul could soar and fly
so swiftly rising high
leaping across mountains
to the silvered stars
this unexpected happiness
plucked from a moment
where the lattice spins

Kneeling I heard you speak
words of a long cold love
and there were prophesies
scribed you said on vellum
that speak of future empires
where kings on thrones of gold
remembering to be merciful
will save a world
This changeless eternal truth
enriches the soul and lives
of those who wish to hear
and the guidance of your rule
spread your sharing balms

You asked if I did love you
there in you high walled garden
blossoming vines spread their fragrance
before fruits dark and shining
gleaming in the morning
My heart clenched I voiced my love
and this warm peace of mind
calmed my raging turmoil
Through passing years
now so swiftly gome
As all dream times end
there came a time to love
then came a time to mourn
and a long long time to heal

Oh my love of dreams
My dark queen of our solitudes
If I could but dream you now
before the lattice fades
We could turn together
and walking hand in hand
journey to the light
