Leisure time

In just a few short months

Life will take another turn

This time into unchartered waters

Known best as retirement

~~

Yes, it is time

My body tells me true

In my mind I am not ready

Just accepting what is so

~~

Leisure time, what will I do with it?

Will it age me more quickly?

These are questions that I must answer

I like to know what I'm getting into

~~

There are home projects to do

Things that need repair

This is where I will begin

After that, what then?

~~

My mind will figure a way

Perhaps I will write more

There are thoughts to be scribed

A novel exists within me

~~

Yes, it is time

To reconnect spiritually with God

Who saw fit to bless me

With all that I have been given

~~

Retirement will be what I make it

I'll not be idle

Instead, I will fill the hours and days

Employing my God given talents

~~

Leisure time? Maybe

But I still have much to contribute

To my home, family and fellow man

I will be busy

~~

Yes, the Lord does work in mysterious ways

There is conflict in verse one which breeds fear of the unknown. You are not fully accepting of what has come too soon. These are fine expressions of natural pondering & sensible solutions. Even though I do not know what befalls you I do know you will continue on your journey in a dignified and satisfying manner. Good luck to you.

I do believe that you will find that your time will be filled with many things that are very worth-while, as you've described, and it will be amazing how none of it ever seems to run out! No matter how much work you do, there's always that much more to do after it's done.

Growing closer to God, family and hearth will be so rewarding, and you'll be so busy that you won't miss "work" like you think you will.

I know you have that novel hiding there, too, so you will have MORE than enough to keep you going! :o)

Don't worry too much about "leisure" time...it will be very scarce before you know it!

Looking forward to seeing a lot of new writes once you get to retire...I know there's a lot hiding in that fertile mind of yours!

Hugz and grins...Glata

I FIND IT UNFORTUNATE THAT PEOPLE SEE THINGS IN THAT LIGHT…

WHY IS IT THAT TIME THAT DOES NOT PRODUCE THE "PRECIOUS” DOLLAR IS ALWAYS CONSIDERED A WASTE OF TIME OR LEISURE TIME?

I HAVE SUFFERED SUCH PREJUDICE AS A MOTHER…I FEEL IT’S JUST AS VALUABLE TO TEACH THE NEXT GENERATION HOW TO LIVE, AS IT IS TO GO OUT AND WORK IN SOCIETY FOR PAY…BUT BECAUSE MY WORK REAPS NOT A DIME…IT IS LOOKED DOWN UPON.  NOWADAYS, IF YOUR NOT MAKING MONEY YOU ARE LOOKED UPON LIKE A NOBODY DOING NOTHING.   I DISAGREE WITH THIS…I THINK IT MAKES A BIG STATEMENT OF HOW THE WORLD HAS GONE UTTERLY MAD, AND I’M ONE OF THE FEW SANE ONES LEFT ON THE PLANET!

MOST EVERYONE IS BASING SELF WORTH ON INCOME!

THAT’S SUCH NONSENSE!

WHY DOES RETIREMENT HAVE TO BE "LEISURE TIME”?

I THINK THAT A CHANCE TO RID ONESELF OF THE FETTERS OF BEING A COMPANIES NUMBER, AND THE CHANCE TO DO SOMETHING VALUABLE FOR MANKIND AND SOCIETY IS A BLESSING, AND THAT THE TIME GRANTED SHOULD BE GOOD TO PUT USE WITH GREAT PASSION…

IT’S A GIFT, NOT A CURSE…

IT’S A CHANCE TO DO ALL THE THINGS YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO DO, BUT COULD NOT, BECAUSE YOU WERE TIED DOWN TO THE FACT THAT YOU HAD TO HAVE THE MEANS TO SURVIVE.

IT IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO REALIZE THAT LIFE, AFTER-ALL, IS NOT ABOUT MAKING MONEY, BUT ABOUT LEARNING, GROWING AND SERVING GOD AND FELLOWMAN.

THAT IS SOMETHING THAT BUILDS A TRUE SELF ESTEEM.  IT IS SOMETHING THAT CHANGES EMPTY EXISTANCE INTO MEANINGFUL EXISTANCE…AND THAT IS SOMETHING THAT OFFERS A REAL RETIREMENT THAT LASTS FOREVER AND EVER.

THE FIRST THING GOD DID FOR ADAM WAS GIVE HIM A JOB!  GOD DOES NOT WANT US TO BE IDLE, OR TO PUTZ AROUND PURPOSELESS…HE WANTS US TO WORK…NOT FOR MONEY, BUT FOR OUR OWN GROWTH AND FULFILLMENT.

SORRY, HENRY, IF IVE RANTED ON AND ON IN YOUR COMMENT BOX…BUT IT’S SOMETHING I FEEL VERY STRONGLY ABOUT…

THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS…I HOPE THE BEST FOR YOU~FULFILLMENT, SATISFACTION AND MEANING IN YOUR LIFE.

HUGS,

PAMELA

Well now there are two sides to the retirement coin...personally, I can think of so many things to do...but you have written about the things that are important for you personally to accomplish...really well thought out choices...and ones that will bring you closer to God, closer to family, closer to your creative endeavors. So I say, GO FOR IT!!!   Knowing you, the uncharted waters will be one great mystery to solve...and will give you opportunity to grow and prosper...best wishes and I hope you keep writing.

When we left Oregon I left behind piles of wood I had planned to use in my retirement for projects to build.  Now, I'm bored silly.  I'm not an advocate for retirement.  It's a worthless feeling to a working man.

Good luck with yours.  I really pray that you find me wrong.

Gene
