A SOLDIERS STORY

They come
And they go
The life as a soldier
most do not know

We train and we train
We sweat and we bleed
Long nights we endure
We all need indeed

If not for those nights
We would all surely die
Come time for deployment
With feat in our mind

Our bags are all packed
With our family in mind
Cuz anxious we are
Of that long dreadful time

Our family is teary
On that last 24
This long trip we take
feels like a life time endured

Of fear from patrolling
With our life's unsecured
We roll out in packs
Patrolling those streets
For our training was hard
Not knowing retreat

We fight and we fight
A ghost that's not there
They fight like a coward
From a building somewhere

So we continue to roll
With numbers in strength
While patrolling these streets
Not knowing our faith

If we slip up one time
And make a mistake
The bomb will go off
A life they will take

With brothers in arm's
No one understands
The love that we share
No civilian will have

If must i will dive
On that pin pulled grenade
to sacrifice my life
For the life he has made

He must return home
For that great seed to raise
To cherish there life's
For death not in vain

Our brothers in arms
You might not understand
MY BROTHERS IN ARM'S
ARE TRUE BROTHERS I HAVE

I am a former 68W4 with the Army. I enlisted while 17 and first deployed in 2001 for a 6 month tour in Afghanistan then returned and volunteered for Iraq in 2003. I've served for nearly 10 years before being injured in Iraq on April 12, 2008. This is a great poem and I know exactly what you mean about our brithers/sisters in arms. They are more family and a tighter bond than in the civilian world and we'd give our lives to make sure one of our own makes it back. I look forward to reading more of your poetry

I really good heartfelt poem. Its time i can only imagine.
I have been to iraq with the airforce but stayed inside the wire.

The brothers you meet in the military are true freinds.

sam :)
