Alright so here it is
A true story
About a man that has struggled
To stay a float
A man that has sunk to the bottom
Has tried to float back up to the top
Has been hit by fatherly figures
Has bounced in foster homes
Has been told he'll amount to nothing in life
Drugged by doctors
They say it was best
But for who really?
Not for him
Was used to test new kinds of pills
To see what kind of effect they had on him
Sent back to his parents
At an early age
Bounced back and forth
Between a fighting parents
To young to know
What was happening
To young to understand what my father had
Wake up in the morning
Where did you go dad?
No food in the house
Your out and about
Left him all alone
To fend for himself
Family didn't care for him
He was just an outcast
Finally he's old enough
To understand what's going on
To know his father was really sick
Has a sister
But she doesn't care
Only seen him twice
Then ran away on him
What's a guy to do?
Parents want him to use drugs
To get drunk
Go out and have sex
With random woman he doesn't know
Only way out
Was while he was at work
Father passed away
Hurt him the most
Family only cared
Because they wanted all his stuff
Took it all
Left him with nothing
Just like that they were gone
Got married
Only one that seems to care
Parents are happy he's gone
Won't even contact him
Felt like a  no one
Always made fun of in school
For as long as he could remember
What's a guy to do?
He does everything he can
To stay a float.

One can't change whats gone before but you have a say in your own future,I buried my past a long time ago when I got married, sure it bites me in the ass now and again but this life is my own of my making I'm a strong believer in what hurts us makes us stronger, great writing the worlds your oyster but the paths your own~Graham.

Sometimes I guess staying afloat is all you can do at the moment and beats the heck out of the alternatives. This poem is well-written to describe what was -- a pilgrimmage, if you will.  Where you go from today is influenced -- but not determined by -- yesterday.  Tomorrow is in your hands, and with a loving wife and friends, the journey through the rest of your life takes on new meaning.  Hope your new year opens the door to bright tomorrows.  Tristan

Scott:  so sad and you HAVE risen so far above the horribleness; though I am sure it NEVER truly leaves your memories.  I am so happy you have Erin and her LOVE for you.
