Remember it well

Remember it well

Remember it well

The colour

A vast red beneath my black

Everyone the same that day

Yet somewhat different from usual

I wore mine there on purpose

With purpose

You didnít take long to catch on

Longer than the blink of an eye

They say itís long enough

To acknowledge

The blossoming

Of something new

We acknowledged so much more that day

They tell you all about

Skipping a heartbeat

Going weak at the knees

I admit I was nervous

And felt slightly faint

Tried not to let on

You took advantage of my unsteady state

Like so many other things that day

Suppose that made you the stronger of us both

Remember it well

Then by me in a second

It took a year for you to leave that place

Dark eyes

The once over

And then again for later on

No intro necessary

We knew all we needed to

Everyone else that day

A pair of pairs

Back of the queue

We were the remainder

Told them we didnít mind

Really- itís fine

Pity you didnít stick at maths

You were good at it

You told me

Life is for living

Say you like confidence in a person

Yet you fell for the mouse

Why do that?

Iím glad you did that

Remember it well

The passion

The intensity

The risk

Our hiding place

Dark eyes

Hid them behind that mask of yours

The best thing about it

It was us

A delicate shield

A constant reminder

A full room

Your eyes silently shouting it

I always heard you

Dark eyes

And Iíll always remember

That tragic day

When the mask came off

But so much more my darling

So much

Good times

Greatest moments of my life

Bad times

We got through them

Wrong was never an issue for us

Just everyone else

Remember it well

That night

I confided in you

I told you

My hand in yours

Light comfort

Dark eyes

You made it better

My wonderful drug

My sweet addiction

Regret nothing

Apart from

That one tragic day

When the mask came off

Dark eyes

You and I against the world

And lose you

And keep you

But for how long?

I chose for you

I lost you

For you

So why is it

That you hate me so?

Why is it

That whenever I close my eyes

There you are

Dark eyes

Remember it well

So well

And all I want

Is to forget

This is so very deep, and it resonated for me so well.  Your phrasing is breathtaking and really brings out the feeling in this poem.  Beautiful work.
