Dead Are My People
Gone are most of my native people
My world submerged by tears
and innocent blood

My gentle people died of hunger
and they who did not perish
were butchered with the
white mans sword

My peaceful people died a painful
and such a shameful death with
 crying hearts and wounded souls

But I exist yet in tranquility
 and now in conceived peace

I have Cherokee and Commanche Blood
Why ....

My heart aches, India, from your precious lines of your ancestry....I am sorry that the Cherokee and Commanche were reduced from their lives as they were....Thank you for sharing your pain with us...I am sorry...

Margaret....a friend in words...

Why?  Because God doesn't want your people to perish.  We did your nation a great disservice.  This white man hangs his head in shame for what his ancestors did, and then did again in Germany.

I think it's just the oppression of one people for the benefit of another.  I have indian heritage on both sides of my family.  But to me there's no difference between what happened to the Native American Indians, the Jews in the Holocaust and the genocide of people in Africa.  Let's face it our humanity has a bully instinct sometimes.  It's not pretty.  I love your poem.  It's sad to me too.

India,

An added plus:

A little insight into my background.

My Indian name granted to me,

as a white man, by the chiefs & tribal council,

on more than one occasion, is

"Kichiro", Morning Light.

P.S. I finished successfully

with nothing held back

the complete test for

tribal member as a ...

All the best,

India,

I know the grandchild of Geronimo.

She's won over (50) beauty contests.

She's 20 years of age. Her uncle starred

in the movie, "Last of the Mohicians".

She lives on the reservation

as well as here in Palm Beach.

She receives at least $25,000/yr.

due to the cruelty imposed on her people.

Also, she will receive a $1million stipend.

All the best,

Jamieson

India, forgiveness is a healing for the individual.  yes, its so sad what has happened to the native americans.  no one can argue...this was their land!  now  most live on a reservation.  I worked with a lady recently who is Apache... she showed me how she tanned the leather and made her own knee high moccasins.  she always said.."her father taught her she had to learn how to make it in a white man's world."   She is very successful today and her children are successful as well. Your poem strikes a chord and stirs up feelings of empathy.  One of those things that is inexcusable...and should never have happened!   very strong piece here, India
