Pablo Nerudo wrote his poetry

In green ink

He was ahead of his time

In "going green”

Green is the predominant color

In nature…

Trees in a forest

Stem of a rose

Grass on a lawn

Moss on a rock

I wonder whether writing

In green ink

Kept him grounded…

Or kept him focused

On his writing

Perhaps green flowing ink

Perchance a flowing river

Of knowledge

I see a parallel there

The man was a genius

who wrote in perfect Iamb
like Shakespeare

who perfected the art

of Iambic Pentameter…

Strophe, Antistrophe, Epode…

Perfection in writing

rhyming poem

ABABCDECDE rhyme scheme

He wrote the perfect ode…

To his socks, to a tomato, to a potato

he loved fried potatoes

even wrote an ode to them

He grew vegetables in his garden

which he worked

with his own hands

and praised them in an ode

He was a "green” man

who wrote his timely

words in green ink

He kept a framed picture

of Walt Whitman

on his desk

for inspiration…

I presume

Genteel and generous

with his well chosen words...

He was perfection personified…

His writings still relevant

for this day and age

His wit is still

His skill is still

And his words

 are still being read

(not to be repetitive, but)

he was a genius

who wrote in green

flowing ink

oh now I must read this poet...going green before his time.  there is something to say about writing in green ink...supposed to help preserve the writer's memory.  My favorite ink and purple. I really enjoyed your poem and I am off to google mr. nerudo...

I'm with Mary Lou .... I've never heard of him.  Guess I'm going to have to look him up.  I wonder what he'd do today with all the colors we can use on the computer.  Since being in here I've almost stopped using my pens and inks.  I used to have reams of notes, scratch outs, rewrites, and crumpled throw-aways that I would take into classrooms when the teachers found that I wrote poetry and asked me to speak.  The students needed to know that very seldom does a poet ever write a poem that gets no editing.  They need to actually work at perfecting their writing skills.
Loved the poem.

Well, thank you very much. I now have a new favorite poet. Never heard of him before. I don't have a framed photo of Whitman on my desk but I carry one in my mind and in my heart. I'm so glad you told me about this man. ML
