I have learned first and foremost

that love is all that matters

and must not be conditional

or it's not love at all

That giving is receiving

and faith is believing

There is much to be learned from a child

and one is never too old to learn

When we are still in our youth

40 seems old

but, as we grow older

40 is young

Age is but a number

that means nothing
We are not promised tomorrow

but, we look forward to it

Some people can talk all day

and say nothing

but, much can be said

in a few chosen words

The "meek will inherit the earth"

but, it takes boldness of speech

at times to be heard

Some people seem shallow

others are deep

but, the seeds we sow

are the harvest we reap

Time was invented by man

as a device to keep up with himself

There is no future or past

today is all we have

"As a man is he"

and, as people eateth...

so are they

The only two certainties in life

are death and taxes

The best things in life are free

We arrive on earth with nothing

and we take nothing with us

so, it is really not important...

how much we have while we are here

Author's Notes:

Please don't mistake this for poetry.  It is just a cliche- filled, opinionated, rule breaking piece with no structure or purpose.  It is, however, from the heart.

This is proof that your coming to the Earth, you brought memories of what we were to experience and pass on to others...What we can glean while Earthbound is what we tuck into our Souls to teach others....Whether our choice is to return or to meld into One, knowledge is key....This is a wonderful testimony from an Old Soul of the Ages...Lovely lines....I disagree with you===this IS poetry....

((smiles)))...just a friend in the Cosmic sense....Margaret....

Ok...... off to my favorites.  You explained it wonderfully. "Age is but a number"  Oh, how true.  Shoot, I'd have to quote your whole poem to make all the comments I want to say.
Very, VERY nice.       And yes.... 65 years and not counting anymore.  Threw away my watch years ago.

And it has the grace of truth. Fine lessons which are not always easily learned. ML
