To believe

Someone asked me:

Why have you lost faith my friend?

Dont you understand?

To believe is to be born again.

I smiled at him and said;

We have an agreement Him and me

Its simple but it works

I ignore Him and he leaves me be.

He didnt understand:

You see, its hard to explain

The agreement we have

Its my way of staying sane.

Its not a matter of faith

Faith I have in abundance

Just not in Him, not any more

To Him all we are is a nuisance.

Author's Notes:
When I was younger a priest told me that "we" as protestants didn't go to church because we were protesting against our own faith.
It made sense, in a certain way.
I'm born and raised a protestant. And i go to church very rarely. When i do go(usually around christmas) it isn't about faith or reverence, it's the ritual i take comfort in. Something known and unchanging.

For me this poem is about believing in something, without it necessarily being what you are taught to believe.

if we get away from the labels we will find that God isn't looking at them too.

I can tell you one thing from reading this poem your heart is honest and true.

I really enjoyed this piece. Usually when you read a poem about religion, it's someone preaching about their belief in God. This made a refreshing change to the norm.

I really enjoyed this, and understood it very well. Nicely written. And very bold on your part, most people are too afraid to say what they really believe, unless it is something so many others believe as well. Kudos. ~Savannah.
