Today a piece of my heart did die,
when I had to say my final goodbye;
I remember the laughter, and the tears,
the smiles we shared throughout the years.
Now nothing seems to matter much,
I miss your kindness, and your soft touch;
I cried when I learned about your death,
and still, it doesn't seem real yet.
There's an empty place carved within my heart,
it grows even deeper, the more we're apart;
No words can convey all you've meant to me,
so I'll live by these words that say, "Let it be".
Author's Notes:

My father-in-law was found dead in his trailor, Saturday afternoon.  It was a most unexpected death.  I just wanted to write something for him.
