I walk back and forth
Stumble left to right
Can't seem to see quite right
Am I okay to drive?
Hidden cans of beer in my car
Everything seems so blurry
But I know I'm okay
No need to worry
Chug down another
While I drive down the road
My head is pounding
I wonder what is wrong
Is that blood down my face?
Or am I just sweating because it's warm
My driving is just fine
Done this a few times before
What's with all the flashing lights?
Why are they all around me?
What has happened to me?
I see a body down the road
What's going on here?
I can't seem to move my legs
My body feels so weak
My eyes feel so heavy
I can't stay awake
My life slowly slowly drains away
By something I have done
A few times before
My life has been ended
The other family is in pieces
Took a child away from a parent
All I am now
Is a lifeless corpse
Something I wouldn't be
If I saw the signs
Should have read that sign
Don't drink and drive

Author's Notes:
Another one about drinking and driving.
Not about me personally.

I didnt read the warning signs many of times just thought I knew everything but ended up with no D.L for two and a half years over ten thousand in fines and a nine month rehab stay now I see that sign much brighter. Your poem very much painted my picture except I was lucky I didnt kill anybody. Very

good poem

Very vivid imagery.  A great message too, but I am  afraid those who need to heed it, won't

Everyone knows you should drink, THEN drive, not drink AND drive....Seriously....back in my drinking days, I drove drunk all the time...It's not my fault I didn't kill myself or someone else. The most dangerous part of alcohol is it makes you too stupid to realize how stupid you really are...Every drunk is fine to drive....Just ask them...len

Good poem about drunk driving. the only thing that should be invincible about us is our poetry. We pray that our words lives on.

I have a hard time commenting on "Drunk" type poems.  My step-father was a drunk most of my adolescent life 45 years ago.  Well written, but I ( and this is my hang-up) hated the subject.   Brings back too many bad memories in me.  Must be good to do that.
