Don't forget to call
I saw your smile fade today
your presence wasn't here
slowly moving toward the door
cowering with fear

I saw color fade away
from eyes that once shone bright
grey and dull they seemed
even in the sunlight

I turned to wipe a tear
that slowly found its way
from a heart broken
wounded with betray

I always thought you'd be
that friend who promised me
to never walk away from
the beauty we both could see

and now my dear friend
I must let you go
to the one who holds your heart
where your love can flow

and when the days shall pass
and you can see your way
don't forget to call
a stranger do not stay

Firstly, dear Helen, I love the title....When we dissolve our relationships be it a friend or love, we always wish to know their well-being, I feel~!!  Your work brings the reader to your emotions of the loss, but you remind the person to remember and recall the past happenings....Very nicely rhymed.....A pleasure to read...

Strong emotional ties broken for the sake of distance and declining love in a relationship... a sorrowful occurence well-presented... subdued, without ager or remore -- and with the hope for a brighter future. Well done.  Rhyming always adds some cohesion and beauty to lines that otherwise might not speak the same way to the reader.  Tristan
