POETRY FORMS: The Cinquain - by Ann

A Cinquain is a five line poem that follows a specific format. While there are many variations of this style of poem, one of the most common follows the following pattern:

Line 1 a one word title of two syllables that is usually a subject or noun.

Line 2 a two word phrase that describes the title and is four syllables.

Line 3 a three word phrase that describes an action that relates to the title and is comprised of verbs and is six syllables.

Line 4 a four word phrase that uses adverbs or adjectives to describe a feeling relating to the main topic and is eight syllables.

Line 5 one word of two syllables that refers back to the title.

and okay - I love my dogs!

How the heck do you keep up with him? Luke sounds like a bundle of energy! Too bad line 1 had to be a one word title of two syllables...otherwise you could have titled this Puppy Love. (Has a nice ring to it eh...maybe you can use it in another poem about your dog.) You made this look easy...gud on yah Andrew...nice!!

I like dogs and I like poetic forms, so it's all good for me. I'm not usually a fan of the Cinquain, but that's simply because I'm no good at them. Yours here though is quite good, so I am very please... Envious as well, but very pleased, and I'm not easy to please normally, so thank you, and very nice work. ;)

I can tell you love your dogs!! I love that the describing phrase you used was 'tireless whirlwind'. I think that pretty much sums it up! Great job with the form, too. I'll have to try this one!

I love this form and since I am an avid animal lover it was the perfect first poem for me to read on this site.
Short poems are hard to write, just the right words placed just so. I believe you did a perfect job.

Hey, I like the variety in the style.  I don't think I've sene any cinquains here.   And who doesn't like to hear about your dogs?  Great job on this.
