Nostradamus for the Youth
Yesterday's truth is tomorrow's white lies
Tomorrow's fake smile was yesterday's cries
Today we fight to remember the way we were
Tonight we count down to the future unsure

When the clock tolls in the day we expected
We'll look back to the honesty we rejected
And lie to ourselves to save a fate unkind
We fake complacency of what we left behind

With crescent-shaped fallacies we will run
We'll attempt to patch up what came undone
Yesterday will fade into lost consciousness
Yet we prognosticate and stay in this mess

And the crescent reflects on its thin axis
The recollection of the past mentally taxes
The end of a line so thin it's microscopic
The same old argument on a brand new topic

There is no present, we're all in the future
There is no future, we all dwell on the past
There is no time to wonder about out future
There are only the roles in which we're cast

Where is the time we led astray in confusion?
Where is the life we all made with ambition?
Where is the bitter end we all anticipated?
Where the future ends with this inquisition

So we wait for the sun to try on a new mask
For it's the only way we're up to this task
Until you paint it over, the smile will stay
Yet through slanted holes we still see gray

And with covered faces, we seek our fruition
Our soft, muffled words our only ammunition
Aware of the past, the future is ours alone
For the present is just the future postponed
