The Poet Is Lying
Nostalgia trails its way down my spine
Aware of recollections I consign
Poking out its ugly head
Not listening to a word I've said
I push it down
But not quite in time

Scribbled notes attack me in droves of faded ink
Deciding to ignore what I think
Making a lovely fool of me
For the whole damn world to see
The spilled-on stain
Refuses to shrink

I'd burn them all
But how would I remember?
I'd take that fall
But I'm afraid to land
I know I'd make
The same mistakes I once did
Without those notes
Those passive-aggressive quotes

It's really quite simple, you see
It's really disheartening me

So what's nostalgia for these days?  I guess
It's there to turn my perfect plans into a perfect mess
I blame you for my aching brain
It's telling me it hates the strain
I honestly thought
I'd given you less

So now it comes right down to the wire
I'm justified in calling you a liar
But don't feel bad―I'm one, too
And I didn't learn it from you
Somehow, in me
It's a trait I admire

I'd cut it out
But how would I impress you?
I'd come about
But I'm afraid to look
I know I'd see
Those stupid little blunders
The same blue notes
Those humiliating quotes

It's really quite simple, you see
It's really the last straw for me

Make the music love me
'Cause right now it hates my guts
I can't cover my creative truths
Until that damn door shuts

I'd kill the sound
But how would I stay righteous?
I'd hang around
But I'm afraid to hear
I know I'd cave
And give you your due credit
For leaving notes
Those hateful, priceless quotes

It's really quite simple, you see
It's really not worthy of me

It's really not, truly not
What I want to be
Author's Notes:
She used to leave me notes, written in blue ink.

This was so unlike any I have seen. Your words were so powerful they still linger on my thoughts. All I can say is WOW! Fab list for sure...
