In The Wild Flowers

I never knew after all these years

A reoccurring dream visits you

It started when you became pregnant

You’re walking through a field of wild flowers

The faint sound of a young baby laughing

Turning toward the sound you see a cradle

Moving close there are arms and legs wiggling

Just as you lean over to see the morning calls

In every dream you could feel the baby’s presences

After our daughter was born the dream returned

Why is this vision visiting again you yearn to know

The aberration appears and you lean over hoping

This time when you look you see our daughter

Six years later we are driving along a country road

I am startled when you yell “Please stop, this is it.”

On the edge of the road I see a field wild flowers

You are laughing while you open the back door

Our daughter gets out and says “What are we doing mommy?”

“Take your socks and shoes off like mommy.”

The little angel smiles and asks “What is this place?”

Her mom answers “This is where you were before god sent you to us.”

She holds our daughter’s hand and they begin running through the field

What a wise woman, to face her dream head on and make it part of your daughter's reality. I like this very much. Well done. ML

Ah, Steve this is so sweet! What a beautiful write...you struck a chord in my heart with this one. I, too, dreamed of my children before they were born...but never in a setting quite that beautiful...they were usually in the house with me...but i never could see their little faces...
Sweet job here, my friend!
Hugs...

Oh for the eyes of little children, wild flowers and their partnerships with the Almighty God.  We were driving a country road in Oregon when my daughter cried out, "There's Jesus." and  pointed out into a field of wild flowers.  Your wife's dream and my daughter's eyes.  .............   And people question the existence of God.
Thanks for a beautiful poem ........ Gene
