Goodbye
Just promise that you'll call me when you're there―
 this number here, preceded by a four―
and don't forget the flower for your hair.

I know you don't think I should really care,
but flowers don't grow on that other shore.
Just promise that you'll call me when you're there;

it's hard to trust that weather will be fair.
Please take your coat, in case the rainclouds pour,
and don't forget the flower for your hair:

a marigold, perhaps, for you to wear
til you arrive, then hang above your door.
Just promise that you'll call me when you're there,

and if you find it lonely, cold, or bare,
just think of all the places you'll explore―
and don't forget the flower for your hair,

so I can stay beside you everywhere
as you set out in search of something more.
Just promise that you'll call me when you're there,
and don't forget the flower for your hair.
