For Elizabeth

Itís early in the morning

I cannot sleep again

Ideas and thoughts bombard me

I struggle now to pen

Memories bright and vivid

Seem not so long ago

I held you, darling daughter

The years, where did they go?

Sweet day of your arrival

So precious to my heart

My love for you eternal

Never to depart

I counted little fingers,

Traced your puckered lip

Mother child connection

A bond that held itís grip

Images in photographs

Now sepia tinted time

Cast a soft remembrance

When I was in my prime

Sand runs through the hour glass

Moments fade away

It matters not how old you are

I love you more each day

Turn around and they're grown. How did that happen? Wonderful expression on love, Cindy. As they say in the song, "I don't remember growing older. When did they?" Good work. ML

A really well-written and well-conceived, inspirational poem.  The meter and flow are excellent and the rhymes add a strength and continuity to the poem while the word choices weave the tapestry of a mother's unconditional love with artistic excellence.  A very beautiful poem that adds to the strength of literature on the site.  Great work.  Tristan

You have lost none of your touch Cindy your heart shines through in this, as sweet as the day is long and as proud and loving as only a mother can be~Graham.

Oh those precious times in our life...they slip away so quickly. This is a lovely poem of reflection...the years pass but our love grows deeper. It makes me stop to reflect on my own children. I can really relate to this poem..."sepia tinted time"...well said! Happy Birthday Elizabeth!

"A mother understands what a child does not say."   Very well done Cindy.

Cindy this was fantastic. Reminds me of my daughter Nikki, who will be the same age Feb the 22nd. Stange is it not, how we look upon them and remember what was, and what is now past? The images in our minds and all that has gone with the passing of years, seem just like yesterday sometimes.. I forget that. ya know?

Well done Cindy..

Lovely dedication to your daughter...seems no matter how much times passes or how much heartache we endure  where our children are concerned, that love never fades...but rather grows stronger all the time.

Sweet dedication...

So very loving and sweet, the bond between a Mother and her children is very strong and is one that I believe that most men can't fully comprehend. You put forth such great emotions in your words here Cindy, i loved this.  Hugs,   Henry

are you trying to make this crusty old codger cry?  holy guacamole, you damn near did, particularly knowing a bit of the backstory.  this is such a loving tribute that only a mother could pen, but i doubt there are many mothers out there would could write this half as well as you did.  This one goes into my favorties list - I hope that Liz will have the chance to read this.
