One New Year's Eve a few years ago, I started pet sitting at 5:30 AM and continued without taking a break.  My very last pet sit, I went to at 8:30 in the evening in my cocktail dress ready to go to a New Year's Eve party afterwards.  The mansion I was pet sitting at had a cheap kwickset lock, that I couldn't get open with the key she gave me to take care of her cats.  I ended up ringing the New Year at this house because I had to have a locksmith come open up the door for me.  It felt like the longest day that would never end and I couldn't get warm enough that day.  I ended up just going to a Steak-N-Shake for a cherry coke and a burger afterwards and going home for a long bubble bath.  Glad that day is over!

The longest day I can remember is when my first daughter was born.  The labor and delivery took a long time.  We went to the hospital in the early evening and she was born around noon the next day.  I will always remember the joy but also stress from the complications.

Hi Ann:  I think I would claim 12-23-2002 as the longest day of my life.   My kids, husband and myself watched our mobile home in Florida burn up, down, all around, over, under, around and through!!  Lost pretty much EVERYTHING..................

hmmmm - good question (like always)

i've a couple of them - one when i was a teenager, one as an adult

my junior year of high school, i played on the football team.  we won our conference championship and went out to celebrate that night.  we'd arranged for beer to be in place in a barn (yes, no kidding a barn), but just had to stop at the 7-11 to con some guy into buying us some wine - i'll never forget my purchase - a bottle of Boones Farm Wild Mountain.  Long story short - I got wasted.  I drove drunk - actually don't remember parts of it - lucky I didn't kill me or others - got home - first time getting sick - first time having the room spin - first time remembering thinking "if i concentrate hard enough, the room will stop spinning.

That was the preamble to the longest day - the next day - when i started at 8:00 a.m. working in a grocery store as a bag boy.  My head hurt.  My mouth was cotton.  My eyes hurt.  Hell, everything hurt.  I thought the day would never end.  I inadvertently smashed someones eggs.  I dropped and broke a bottle of vinegar (just the smell i needed).  I didn't think the day would EVER end.  I don't know what time I got off that day - probably 5 or 6:00, but it seemed as though i was on my feet for oh, about 12 weeks in a row.  I was a hurting scooter.....

I'll relay the other story later - this has given me a sympathetic hangover!
