My Name Starts With M
I'm Mary, who shoulders the weight of the past;
I'm Molly, who's tossed at the whim of the tides;
I'm Mallory, hoping the good times can last;
Miranda, who hurts and who hates and who hides.

I'm Maggie and singing; I'm Morwen, who paints;
I'm Madeline, striving for knowledge and gain;
I'm Miriam's patience and Meredith's plaints;
Martina the haughty, Melissa the plain.

Maureen wants to know when the planets align,
While Marni is waiting for praise and acclaim,
And Maya is searching for some kind of sign
For Megan to run through her scientist game.

I'm Mabel, the child who's outgrown all her friends;
I'm Marion, weeping and constantly ill;
I'm Mira, on whom everybody depends―
I'm each one in turn, although never at will.

While Maeve walks on water and Melanie rests,
While Marcy is screaming, Mercedes in thrall,
While Maude pushes Meryl and Mona protests,
Identity stretches and twists through them all.

Melinda, Michelle, Misty, Marylin, May―
Mathilda and Melody, Mina, Marie―
You ask who I am?  It's a bit hard to say.
Instead of a name, I'll just tell you I'm me.
Author's Notes:
Just wanted to see if I could make this one work.  It's partially based off of the fact that all of my favorite roleplaying characters have had 'M' names, and I've always kind of felt as though they're reflections of me.

Makes me think of the other "me", my shadow person; directly the opposite of what I usually am...the shadow that wears gaudy clothes and too bright lipstick and stiletto heeled shoes and takes foolish chances...while I, in conservative reserve keep her secret from your sight...great ideas comes from these poem ideas.   So much fun and so many well-written poems revealing you and me.   Savannah

excellent piece of contemplation...i always enjoy your work.  this one in particular is very personal and tells the reader who you are on the inside...any given day...a well rounded personality I must say.
