No Spark Left

You know that spark we writers have? Mines gone out!

Sounds strange and a bit silly I know, but I actually felt it happen. I used to look at things and a few lines of a poem would just appear in my head. Now, I see what I'm looking at, and nothing else.

I've tried “forcing” a write, that didn't work. I've re-read most of my poems, and a hell of a lot of yours, still nothing. I don't know what caused it, and I've no idea how to get it back. I don't even know if I can get it back. I hope that I can because poetry was one of the few things that kept me going.

I've even started thinking I'm “cured” of whatever demons made me write in the first place.

Those that know me, know that I don't buy into all that religion stuff, but I've even considered praying! I'll try anything.

Maybe I should go put a brick through a window, or punch someone just to get myself in trouble. Or get drunk, or stoned, or take a line of whiz. Those were my demons, should I revisit them to kick start my spark?

Could all the bad things have been purged from me? Have I found inner peace? If so, I don't want it. I'm a writer, I'm a poet, it's what I am...I want my spark back.

Didn't know where to put this. If anyone knows of a fool proof solution...this fool needs it.

I think you pray to St. Anthony for things lost or misplaced.  I don't know if it will work for this but you might find a set of keys misplaced sometime ago.

So, what's so bad about being a washed-up has been?? What's so bad about being a dried-up, no talent lout? Nothing.....that's what!! Lot's of no-talent bums lead happy, productive lives, bro....The solution to your problem is simple....Begin a story with...."It was a dark and stormy night."...The rest will write itself..
But seriously, folks....You can't lose writing talent any more than you can change the color of your skin....Michael Jackson excluded, natch... :o) Like Mark Twain said when a reporter asked him when he was going to write another book, "If there is another book in me, it will come out, and I will put it down on paper."  Guess what? There were quite a fgew books left in him.. Yer fellow, no-talent hack, len

Relax....go with the flow...
I sometimes think we have nothing to say..and to force it is wrong imho ;-)
What is in you..never leaves you...but sometimes we have to accept that we are being told to do as just advised.
The end result will be increased creativity..not forced.

The oracle has spoke ;-)

Dearheart.....There is spark in that pen if you can come to the page and spread out the words you just did on this posting~!  But, I understand that "spark" that makes you eager to write and present your thoughts to the site, to a friend, to ANYONE that will read~!  Many, many times I have re-read the works that I penned when I had demons up the wazoo~!  They were what I was supposed to write at that time to be able to go to another level...Think of it as another "dimension", so to speak.  When I was dancin' with the demons, I could stay up all night, write down viscious lines and love the result....Now, where I am is with age, I believe, and since my life has changed so much, then my subjects change, too.  But===that does not mean that to write like that again should I delve into the place that I was then.....Now, wanting to "smell the roses", I find myself in another "dimension"....You are a helluva writer, and I rue the fact that I was away from the site so long and did not get to read your page...but, I plan to change that....Barbara is right, sometimes the Word Banks work and then that "spark" might just ignite you back to YOU....You will ALWAYS be you...the fun-lovin', sexy, wordsmith that you always have been and will always BE~!!
Now if you want a list for Word Bank...holler at me and I will send you some....K???
Love ya, kiddo~!

Adri has a point, lovey...You're writing! (grin) and you know what? I don't know a writer yet that hasn't gone through what you're going through. What some would call "inner peace," we writers call a mental hell...

Hang in there, Bubba mine...I have faith in you that you'll come out on the other side of this without having to resort to the things you mentioned. Dry spells...sometimes very LONG dry spells...are normal. However, you are far too creative a person for it to last too long...

Love ya!
That axe totin' sister of yours here  in the States...Glata

Well you writing ain't you?  And that is a start my dear.  It may just be venting your frustration on paper about not being able to write, but you wrote it, and it is a start.  I have had so many "dry spells" I have lost count. You are a born writer, and you will get it back, you are too good not to write.  I have faith in you.

Sometime we need a break. Sometime we don't feel inspired due to many other things that are happening in our lives. Sometime we think we've said all we can about the problems that spurred us on. Sometime we just clam up...don't want anyone knowing our stuff and we stuff it all down. This one is really a tough one to overcome. The problem you are experiencing is a tough row to hoe...for sure--I know but you are not alone--it happens to the best writers John. Hang in there but--start small or just take a break and only read poetry for a while. Your demons are not purged...there is more to say about them yet...and no...don't do any of those things to revisit demons. You could write about past pleasant experiences as well or share your views on world issures--or simply take on a writing challenge. The Word Bank poems are a good place to start. I'd be happy to send you 10 words to inspire or motivate you...let me know. Press on John...think about what is holding you back...once you figure out what it is then you can work on overcoming it. Give me a holler if you want to discuss this farther.

can only speak for myself, but maybe that is fool-proof? ;)

* have you tried another creative expression? me I tend to have very cyclical inspirationwawes and I found that when my word-part of the brain gets "off" my picture-part gets a spark... so the flow can keep on ... eh ... flowing...

* keep writing, even if you think the outcome stinks... like IV, keeping the stream from drying out...

... doing something completely new you've never done before is also a great idea. even if it doesn't help, it helps..

over and out

WOW!!!  I hate those "dark" days when there is no spark!!!!  Mine usually slide away and my creativity re-appears.  I hope you get back into writing mode -- miss your input.
